The Jacksonville Jaguar U16 Women, coached by David
Oliphant, dominated a strong field in the F.S.U.
Invitational during the March 13-14 weekend, to bring home
the Champions Trophy.
The severely undermanned squad ran roughshod over teams
from across North Florida from the Panhandle to St. Johns
County. Amazingly, our U16s gave up only two goals in four
games, while playing in the U17 bracket with only 11 suited
up on Saturday and with one reserve on Sunday, due to
injuries and family commitments.
Hayley Lappen, Carolyn Elmore, Kathryn Routier and
Carolynn Gunn found net for the Jags, while the red and
black defense, anchored by Katie Taggert, Lindsey McKay,
Ashley Dunsmore and Maegan Voss swarmed opposing teams,
keeping them off balance and denying them clean chances on
goal. Our women controlled the middle third as well, thanks
to the tireless efforts of team sparkplug Shaye Newman, as
well as the steady play of Haley Crist and Alyssa Gonzalez.
Goalkeeper Megan Bowen turned in two clean sheets and
stopped two penalty kicks in the Championship game to secure
the win. Lorie, you can stop hiding your eyes now. She
done good!
Congratulations to our plucky young women for showing
what commitment, dedication and hard work can do!
